In 2007 CBRE became the first commercial real estate services company to announce a commitment to become carbon neutral in its own operations. In addition, CBRE is assisting property owners and occupiers with energy efficiency programs at building space it manages around the world. As the leading commercial real estate services firm, CBRE is uniquely positioned to influence participation in Earth Hour around the globe.
"By taking part in Earth Hour 2010, we are sending a powerful message that CBRE clients, tenants and employees stand united with people across the globe in their concern about climate change and their commitment to environmental sustainability," said David Pogue, national director of sustainability and head of the company's green initiative in the Americas region.
In support of Earth Hour in the U.S., CBRE will off all non-essential lighting and equipment in nearly 86 million sq. ft. of managed office space across the nation. To further increase environmental awareness and encourage participation, each of the occupants in the participating buildings will be provided with "101 Tips Toward a Greener Tomorrow," which serves as a green guide for home conservation. This is the third in a series of "101 Tips" developed by CBRE for use by buildings, office tenants, and in-home use.
CBRE was recently ranked among Newsweek's top 50 greenest big companies in America. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named CBRE an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for the past three years, including recent recognition for Sustained Excellence.
