Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary Larry Midler has been
named the 2011 Corporate Counsel of the Year in the large public company
category by the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ).
“Larry has been the architect of and driving force behind
the continual improvement of CBRE’s corporate governance and compliance
initiatives,” said Brett White, Chief Executive Officer, CBRE.
“From helping take CBRE public to completely redesigning our Standards of
Business Conduct and spearheading the global roll-out of the Ethics and
Compliance program, Larry has been a major contributor to
several key transformational events in CBRE’s recent
history, and we are incredibly proud of his
accomplishments.”
Mr. Midler has been CBRE’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel
since April 2004. He also serves as the company's Chief Compliance Officer. Mr.
Midler’s accomplishments at CBRE include: building a global full-service legal
department; leading all legal efforts on the company’s $2.2 billion acquisition
of Trammell Crow Company that transformed CBRE from primarily a transaction
sales and leasing company to one with balanced revenues from both transactional
and contractual businesses; developing the company’s comprehensive Global
Anti-Corruption Policy and Compliance program; and playing an instrumental role
in CBRE’s $1 billion acquisition of ING Group’s global real estate investment
management business, a deal scheduled to close later this
year.
Prior to joining CBRE, Mr. Midler served as Executive Vice President,
General Counsel and Secretary at Micro Warehouse, Inc., from July 2001 until the
acquisition of its North American businesses in September 2003. Following the
acquisition until March 2004, Mr. Midler served as sole director and Chief
Executive Officer to manage the process of selling the company’s European
operations and winding up the company’s affairs.
Mr. Midler holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from
The New York University School of Law and started his legal career in New York
City with the international law firm Latham & Watkins.
