2013 saw an increase in cross-border retailer activity, with more businesses expanding internationally, primarily to larger markets. Across the world, top target markets saw a 28% increase in new entrants, and four additional markets were deemed to be mature.
In our yearly analysis of global retail trends, we looked at the operational networks of 334 leading international retailers across 61 countries. In this report, we will:
- Map the footprint of the top global retailers at the country and city level, comparing variations between retailers in different regions and sectors.
- Examine the extent to which retailers have expanded global operations in 2013, providing complete coverage of the hottest retail markets in the world.
- Provide a definitive benchmark against which to measure future changes in the global retail environment, identifying the countries and cities leading the way in attracting international retail investment.
