With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and startups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world - apart from the Silicon Valley, U. S.
Tel-Aviv, the center of an urban region stretching the Mediterranean coast, serves as the commercial and industrial capital and also plays an important role in the cultural and recreational life of modern Israel. Other cities in this urban area include Petach Tikva, Herzliya Pituach, Raanana, Rosh Haayin, Ramat Gan, Rishon LeZion and Rechovot.
Jerusalem is Israel's largest city and capital and is home to three major religions; Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Jerusalem has become a modern city with hi tech parks and shopping malls while retaining its religious and historic significance.
Haifa, located in the north of the country, serves as a center of heavy industry and contains the country's busiest port and several hi tech parks.
Average office rents are less than half that of Lisbon and Warsaw and only 15% of London City. Living costs are around half of those in London and Tokyo, and approximately 75% of those in New York and Singapore.
Israel's workforce is highly skilled, educated, productive and technically literate. Twenty-four per cent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees, ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland.
Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U. S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany.
