Sponsored by the Women's Network and inspired by Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition in 1914, the Endurance of Spirit Award is presented annually to the manager or professional who best exemplifies the mission of the Women's Network.
The award's title references Shackleton's expedition boat, the Endurance, so named after his family motto, Fortitudine Vincimus (By Endurance We Conquer). The expedition account is an extraordinary story with leadership lessons that uniquely parallel those of the Women's Network:
- Reinforce the message - "We are one -- we live and die together"
- Embrace complexity and diversity in the team, while instilling a shared identity working towards a common goal
- Instill optimism and self confidence
- Set a personal example
Shackleton's expedition teaches us that true leaders use creativity and insight to overcome challenges and achieve incredible results. With this in mind, the Women's Network applauds the recipients of the Endurance of Spirit Award.
