Ontario, founded as a model colony by George and William Chaffey in 1882, is located within the Inland Empire—the fastest growing area of the United States according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. It is predicted that the Inland Empire will add 928,000 people from 1993-2005 reaching a population of 3.8 million.
Comprised of San Bernardino County and Riverside County, the Inland Empire's personal income is estimated at $60 billion. If the region were a state it would rank just behind Kansas, the 31st largest state. The Inland Empire is the last region of Southern California to have large amounts of undeveloped land along developed transportation corridors creating a powerful advantage for both residential and industrial/commercial developers.
The area is recognized as one of the best distribution warehouse locations in the Southwestern United States. Additionally, it has become home of many back office and regional headquarters facilities. For detailed information about the local economy, read the reports from our local economist, John Husing.
