IN MEMORIUM

William C. Powell
1944-2009
The Silicon Valley Office mourns the passing of Bill Powell, our friend, colleague, and former Managing Director. Bill passed away on April 3 following a six-month battle with cancer.
Bill was Managing Director in the Silicon Valley Office from 1997 to 2000. Bill was foresighted enough to see how the Valley was evolving into a major technological center, and it was Bill who convinced CB Richard Ellis management to change the name of the office to the "Silicon Valley Office".
Before his tenure with CBRE, Bill was a partner at Realprop Development Company, a partner at Kimball Small Properties and Vice President and manager of Sequoia Pacific Realco’s (a Southern Pacific company) Northern California office.
In November 2000, Bill left CBRE to form Meridian Property Company, a commercial real estate developer and investor with projects throughout California. As President and CEO, Bill was responsible for all aspects of the real estate development process, including site acquisition, financing, lease negotiations, construction, and asset management.
Under Bill's direction, Meridian Property Company has developed fifteen medical and professional office developments in California. The projects have totaled 870,000 square feet comprised of 79 small buildings with a cost basis exceeding $220 million dollars.
Bill is survived by his wife Connie; his children Michelle, William L., James, Jennine, and Robert; his stepdaughter Jacy; 10 grandchildren; his father, William M.; brothers David, John, and Christopher; and sister Claudia.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory "in support of cancer research" may be sent to Stanford University, Office of Medical Development, 2700 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025.
