Fairfield County is located in the southwest corner of Connecticut. It encompasses 627 square miles and is bordered by Westchester County, NY to the south and west, New Haven County, CT to the north and Long Island Sound to the east. Its location, along the I-95 corridor just an hour from New York City and two hours from Boston, provides access to all of the amenities of larger cities in a suburban setting.
Financial services, insurance and consumer products dominate Fairfield County's industry, which strongly reflects the fluctuations of the business cycle and national economy. The City of Stamford and the Town of Greenwich have traditionally been the hub of the county's business community, though locations further east like the City of Norwalk and Town of Shelton have recently proved popular. Among the companies that have chosen to locate their corporate headquarters in Fairfield County are: UBS (North American HQ), General Electric, Pitney Bowes, Xerox, Time Warner Cable, Sikorsky Aircraft, Boehringer-Ingleheim, Deloitte & Touche, Duracell, Purdue Pharma, Diageo PLC, Hewitt Associates and Clairol.

Westchester County is located immediately north of New York City and is bordered by Long Island Sound to the south, Putnam County, NY to the north, Connecticut to the east and the Hudson River to the west. Covering 451 square miles, the county is 15 miles wide and 30 miles long with an estimated population of almost 900,000. Westchester is divided into six cities (Mt. Vernon, Rye, New Rochelle, White Plains, Peekskill and Yonkers), 15 towns and 23 villages. The City of White Plains is the county seat. Westchester is home to nearly 34,000 companies. Financial and general service firms make up the vast majority of the county's business community. Among the largest of these are IBM, PepsiCo, Reader's Digest Association, MasterCard International, Avon Products, Lillian Vernon, AT&T, Bayer Inc., Fuji Photo Film USA and New York Life Insurance. More than 90% of the firms located in the county, however, are smaller businesses with 20 or fewer employees.
