Palm Beach County is the northernmost county of the South Florida Tri-County area and, at more than 2,000 square miles, is the largest of Florida's 67 counties. Stretching from Jupiter in the north to Boca Raton in the south, Palm Beach County is renowned for its beaches and is also known as Florida's "Gold Coast".
Population growth is one of Palm Beach County's fundamental economic advantages. From 1980 to 1990, Palm Beach was the third fastest growing county in the United States among metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) with a population growth of nearly 500,000 people, representing an impressive 49.7% increase. According to Entrepreneur Magazine, Palm Beach County is the best location in the country for new business ventures. In 2001, Entrepreneur ranked the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton metro area number 3 in the nation for entrepreneurs and cited the county's excellent climate of innovation, high levels of disposable income, diversified economy and skilled workforce.
According to a recent survey of firms located in Palm Beach County, critical factors that influence companies to migrate to the area include: climate, quality of life, potential market growth, transportation infrastructure, skilled labor force, and strategic location. In addition to serving a local market of more than one million year-round residents, businesses enjoy easy access to Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and the entire population of 5.4 million South Florida region residents. Orlando and the fast growing Central Florida region, with 5.1 million residents, is just two hours by road from West Palm Beach.
