Charlotte is the second largest financial center in the nation, with more than $2.16 trillion in assets, behind only New York. The Charlotte area's largest employers represent many sectors, including health care; government services; education; banking and finance; transportation; retail; telecommunications; and manufacturing. Charlotte, also known as the Queen City is ranked the number six city in the US for having nine Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the area. It also is home to operations for 328 companies listed in the Fortune 500.
Charlotte prides itself with a cultural lineup that includes nationally-recognized museums and the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center that houses a symphony orchestra, opera, theater, and dance companies. The region is also home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, NBA's newest expansion team - the Charlotte Bobcats, NFL's Carolina Panthers as well as the Lowes Motor Speedway.
