Medina County University Center
Promoting regional economic growth through education

Innovation Park is also the future home The University of Akron’s Medina County University Center (MCUC). Set upon approximately 50 acres that were gifted to The University of Akron by the Medina County Board of Commissioners, the MCUC is a center for innovation created through a partnership with leaders and citizens of Medina County. The MCUC is the county’s first physical facility devoted solely to higher education and is scheduled to open in January of 2008. The three-story structure will enable the University of Akron, as well as partners from other universities and community colleges, to offer standard college courses, professional development workshops and workforce training. It is planned to be an integral part of this 21st Century premier business location by delivering educational programs that will sustain a technologically trained workforce as well as provide access for local businesses to the technology and research resources of a nationally recognized research institution.

As the University of Akron's center for innovation, the MCUC is not a branch campus but something more dynamic and independent. Faculty from many universities will teach there, and area residents as well as the business community will have a voice in the selection of programs and courses. With an emphasis on flexibility, and "just-in-time" delivery of programming, the Center will bring together a unique blend of traditional college coursework and workforce development programs customized according to the demands of local students and businesses. As changes in the workplace yield new demands on the workforce, the University Center will adapt by offering a flexible, dynamic curricula tied to these changing needs. Students that attend MCUC will be able to work on a variety of two-year, four-year and graduate degrees, as well as professional development certificates.

The strong collaborative relationship between The Medina County Commissioners, Medina County Economic Development Corporation, Medina County Port Authority, the Transportation Improvement District, the Medina County University Center Taskforce and The University of Akron makes this 120-acre Innovation Park an ideal place for businesses to locate and grow.
