THE GOLF VILLAGE DESIGNERS / HURDZAN • FRY
The Golf Village is being designed by the world renowned and Columbus-based Hurdzan-Fry golf architectural firm. The facility has been designed to provide multiple golf related activities for an individual to experience and enjoy in a single hour. This unique golf facility will also be a teaching facility with programs for beginner golfers and the disabled.

DR. MICHAEL HURDZAN Dr. Michael Hurdzan has been honored with the Donald A. Rossi Award by the Golf Course Builders Association of America for distinguished contributions to his profession; he was Golf World Magazine’s “Architect of the Year;” and The Board Room Magazine’s selection for that same honor twice. Dr. Hurdzan has designed some of golf’s most famous courses, including Devil’s Pulpit and Devil’s Paintbrush in Caledon, Ontario. GOLF DIGEST named these two masterpieces the Best New Course in Canada. The International Network of Golf awarded Mike and his partner Dana Fry Industry Honors for Achievement in Golf Course Design for their creation of Farm Links Golf Club in Sylacauga, Alabama, and Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Militia Hill course. An internationally recognized authority on golf course environmental issues, Dr. Hurdzan studied turf management at Ohio State University and earned a masters degree in landscape architecture and a Ph.D. in environmental plant physiology at the University of Vermont. Of Dr. Hurdzan’s 464-page book Golf Course Architecture, Second Edition, Links Magazine says, “Hurdzan takes you through the design process as no one ever has, the book is so complete, it is probably all you’ll ever need on this topic.”
DANA FRY, PRINCIPAL, ASGCA Dana Fry’s career in golf began as a talented junior golfer who later went on to play for the University of Arizona. During that period Dana became interested in golf course design and went to work as a shaper for Tom Fazio for five years before he joined Mike in 1988. It didn’t take long to recognize Dana’s genius for golf course design and in January 1997, Mike made Dana a partner in the firm.
Combined with Michael Hurdzan’s technical expertise, Dana offers the eyes of an artist, and the passion of an avid golfer. Together Mike and Dana have designed nearly 100 courses.
Ohio Golf Legend Jack Kidwell has said of Dana, “He has a rare genius for producing consistently dramatic golf holes, on widely varying sites, with each one having a distinct character. He is always pushing the limits of design and construction, but he never steps over the line into absurdity.”
