As the state capital and largest city of Ohio, Columbus is located near the geographic center of the state, in the seat of Franklin County. Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in the entire country.  It is ranked as the 15th largest city (711,500 population) and the 32nd largest metropolitan area (1,708,625 population) in the United States, while the Combined Statistical Area (which also includes Marion and Chillicothe) has 1,936,351 people. Considered to be one of the most economically stable cities in the entire U.S., Columbus is home to several Fortune 500 company headquarters, and others have operations in the region as well, providing a prospering economy and cutting-edge job opportunities. 

This base of industries has given Central Ohio economic prosperity and stability. Several nationally recognized Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies call Columbus home.  Those companies (and their respective Fortune ranking) include Cardinal Health (#19), Nationwide Insurance (#104), American Electric Power (#192), Limited Brands (#240), Hexion Specialty Chemicals (#433), Big Lots (#469), Wendy's International (#562), Abercrombie & Fitch (#602), Retail Ventures (#651), Worthington Industries (#666), Scotts Miracle-Grow (#696),  Huntington Bancshares (#714), Greif (#715) and Bob Evans Farms (#993).  The Limited, Nationwide Insurance, Chase, Worthington Industries, Longaberger Baskets, Cardinal Health, Limited Brands and Scotts Company were founded here.  Additionally, Columbus is home to several internationally-recognized research institutions including The Ohio State University, the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), Battelle and Chemical AbstractsThe City of Columbus has historically remained below both the national and Ohio State unemployment rates.

Columbus also boasts a wide variety of fine arts, theater, and sports venues including The Columbus Blue Jackets, The Columbus CrewThe Columbus Clippers, as well as The Ohio State University Buckeye Football Team.
