Significant Assignments
- While with James W. Rouse & Co., Quinn closed a $23 Million loan for the developer of the Marriott Washington Hotel.
- While with Criswell Development Co., Quinn utilized his contacts with Hyatt Hotels Company to co-develop the 446-key Hyatt Regency Austin; the 604-unit Hyatt Regency West Houston (now the Marriott Houston Westchase); and the 451-room Hyatt Regency Tech Center in Denver.
- Quinn also assisted in putting together the group of investors to join Criswell, who obtained the rights to exclusively negotiate the acquisition of London’s venerable Dorchester Hotel. This group included Merrill Lynch, Hong Kong-based Regent International Hotels, and a group representing a member of the Saudi Arabian Royal family. Quinn went to London to oversee the due diligence and conduct the final negotiations. The Hotel was purchased for ₤44 million and sold six months later to the Sultan of Brunei for ₤88 million.
- At Cadillac Fairview Urban Development, Quinn joined with the mandate to get a full service hotel financed and built in two and a half years. Pittsburgh National Bank (PNC) provided a five year open-ended construction/mini permanent loan for $20.2 million with CF providing the site as equity. The 337-room hotel (now the Omni Park West) opened on schedule in late 1986. He also asset-managed CF’s interests in the Four Seasons Hotels in Houston and Vancouver.
- Quinn’s role with VMS Realty Partners of Chicago was to lead a team of 40+ professionals and staff in the asset management of 58 of the hotels and the direct operation of the Boca Raton Hotel & Club. He also oversaw the development/construction of three resorts (Westins on Maui and Kauai, (with partner Chris Hemmeter) and the Hyatt Key West). Additionally, VMS developed an office/hotel complex on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The hotel was Hyatt’s first all-suite product (today it is the Omni Chicago). Quinn also directed VMS’ bids in the auctions for the Westin and Interncontinental chains as well as led the work on VMS’s acquisition of RockResorts from CSX.
- In 1988, Quinn joined Robert Woolley’s development company to direct the effort of establishing the Emabassy Suites brand in Europe (Woolley, at that time, was Embassy’s largest franchisee). In 1991, Woolley took back the management of his twenty-two Embassy Suites and formed a new firm, Crown Sterling Suites, to own and manage these properties. Quinn was charged with restructuring the debt of these hotels and, in 1996, they were sold to FelCor Lodging Trust.
- After the sale, Quinn worked with Robert Woolley to develop a 369-room DoubleTree Hotel at O’Hare Airport. This hotel was sold to Destination Hotels & Resorts in 2004. Additionally, Quinn assisted Woolley in the development, operation and sale (to Barcelo Hotels in 2005) of Woolley’s luxury resort Karmina Palace in Manzanillo, Mexico.
