Founded in 1847 by LDS pioneers, the Salt Lake area steadily grew due to railroad expansion and mining booms and became known as "The Crossroads of the West" with over half of the nations population within a 2.5 hour flight. Utah has one of the highest Concentrations of software firms in the country as well as over 260 biotech firms, most of which are located in the Salt Lake City area. Our population is growing at nearly twice the National average according to the 2000 census. Intel ranked Salt Lake as one of the top 25 cities with Wireless Internet access. 76% of the population has internet access (Media Audit, 2004), and nearly 40% of those Connections are via broadband (Nielsen//NetRatings).
An hours drive from downtown Salt Lake can get you to nine major ski resorts, three cross country ski areas or the nation's only recreational ski jumping complex; home of the United States Olympic Ski Team. If you prefer summer sports, five national parks are located in Utah and six more are less than a day away. Just a few minutes from downtown and you will find yourself at one of our 7 major canyons for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing or Camping; guides are available at most local recreation retailers.

Nestled in the base of the Wasatch Mountains and just 40 miles south of Salt Lake City is Brigham Young University (BYU). Founded in 1875, BYU currently facilitates just over 33,000 students and offers 212 bachelor degree programs, 70 master degree programs and 20 doctorate degree programs. The University has become a favorite spot for conventions, conferences, seminars, and workshops. BYU also houses a brand new beautiful conference center designed to accommodate larger scale activities. This center contains 270 seats and over 50 meeting rooms (the two largest accomodate approximately 550 people each).
