Maui County is the third most populous of the four counties of Hawaii. It consists of the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe. Ninety percent of the County live on Maui.
Maui is the second largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Average temperatures range between 75 and 85 degrees and the island boasts of long, sandy beaches, tropical rainforests, rolling green pasture lands and spectacular rocky cliffs.
Maui still holds the charm of the past while also embracing the future. Maui is home for the Maui High Performance Computing Center, one of the world's most powerful parallel processing computers. The computer is housed at the Maui Research & Technology Park.
A significant amount of astronomy is accomplished atop Haleakala, Maui's two-mile high volcanic mountain. Haleakala was designated a world treasure as a habitat by the United Nations.
