One of the largest building renovations currently happening in Portland is taking place at the Wells Fargo Center (1300 SW 5th Avenue), including delivery of an exciting new culinary hub to downtown.
Turning the tallest building between Seattle and San Francisco into a more contemporary workplace is no small feat. From a programming perspective, the goal is to transform the ground floor into a food hall for Portland’s working professionals from morning to night. Chef Doug Miriello, from LA’s acclaimed Gjusta and Gjelina, will be leading the charge from a food and beverage perspective. The second floor will feature a coffee bar, while the ground level will feature Portland’s newest hot sandwich bar and a lunchtime salad concept, both centered around an all-day continental bar that doubles as an annex for Coopers Hall Wine on tap. All four concepts are slated to be up and running by Q4 2019.
Chef Miriello’s goal is to "showcase techniques and ingredients that will surprise and excite diners throughout the week with the salad offerings. The hope is that our sandwiches become not only a building favorite but a travel worthy neighborhood icon."
Menus are still being developed, but the sandwich bar will feature on-site smoked meats and signature sandwiches like the Pastrami Reuben (12-day cure, 8-hour smoke, house kraut, cave aged gruyere, house Russian on griddled rye) and the Prime Rib Butcher (porcini rubbed rare prime rib, cold pressed olive oil, horseradish, maldon, warm baguette, side jus). Salads will rotate seasonally featuring items like: spinach, dandelion and frisée, baguette crisps, shallot, French feta, pine nuts, roasted garlic vinaigrette and grilled Pacific Northwest steelhead. Breakfast offerings will be everything from overnight oats with seasonal fruit and honey to a Mexican breakfast torta with fried egg, refried beans, mayo, avocado, queso fresco and pickled jalapeño. Happy Hour menus at the Coopers Hall Annex will highlight items like crispy smashed fingerlings, fried rosemary sage and parmesan.
“We are truly excited to welcome Chef Miriello to Wells Fargo Center – not only as leasing brokers but as tenants of the building,” said Trevor Kafoury, Executive Vice President and lead broker on the Wells Fargo Center leasing team. “This is highly anticipated and will serve as a destination not only for the building, but for the entire south central business district.” The building’s renovations will be completed by early 2020. In addition to the food and beverage offerings, new amenities will include a conference facility, tenant lounge, fitness center, showers, lockers and secure bike parking hub.
