Craig Thede became HSE Manager on the JCPenney Account for CBRE on December 8, 2014. Mr. Thede manages and leads the day-to-day health, safety, and environmental initiatives for the CBRE support staff in almost 1,100 JCPenney retail stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Mr. Thede has over 20 years of experience in HSE.
Prior to taking the HSE Manager position at CBRE, Mr. Thede was the Safety Director at Soil Express, LTD based out of Prosper, TX. Soil Express had right of way construction projects on electrical transmission lines from the Bakken reserves in North Dakota to the ports of Corpus Christie, TX. However, the majority of Mr. Thede’s experience is in general industry with Pioneer Hi-Bred and later DuPont Pioneer.
Mr. Thede uses a Lean-Behavioral Based approach to safety. Safety metrics are analyzed with lag indicators identified and benchmarked. Strategies are then executed to drive leading indicators that will influence those lag indicators in a positive direction while at the same time transforming a safety culture. A company’s safety success crosses over into so many different aspects of their business; quality of work, employee morale, lower employee turnover, teamwork, employee engagement, etc. A safe workforce is a productive workforce.
Mr. Thede is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). This highly respected certification is awarded to individuals who meet academic standards, satisfy professional safety experience requirements covering engineering and management aspects of safety, applied sciences, legal and regulatory matters, professional affairs, and other safety-related topics.
Mr. Thede currently resides in Frisco, TX where he is an active member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Construction Safety Leadership Alliance (CSLA) and an OSHA authorized trainer for construction. He is formerly from Reinbeck, IA and a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.
