Curt Cornelssen, Managing Director, is currently co-leader of CBRE’s public sector consulting practice. In this role, he is responsible for providing a wide range of advisory services involving strategic planning, business planning, performance management, innovation and transformation, public private partnerships and real estate planning. Curt has over 30 years of experience in hospitality and recreation as a consultant, operator, educator, and strategist in the private sector, government, and as a U.S. Army Officer.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Cornelssen served as the Director of Strategy and Innovation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). In this capacity, he was responsible for leading strategy, innovation, and transformation for a $25B enterprise that provides quality of life programs and commercial services for the U.S. military community in over 400 locations worldwide. His most notable accomplishment was developing and leading the Department’s Healthy Base Initiative (HBI), a pilot demonstration program designed to improve the health and wellness of service members and their families.
Prior to joining the DoD, Mr. Cornelsssen led the public sector hospitality practice at one of the largest hospitality firms in the country. In this position, he led major transformations for federal agencies and foreign countries. Most notably, Curt led a five-year effort to transform the National Park Service’s $1B Concessions Program, helping to improve visitor services, making much needed infrastructure investments, while increasing the financial return to the NPS and its parks.
Mr. Cornelssen has conducted real estate and business planning projects throughout the world, with a focus on transformation and public private partnerships. Throughout his career, he has advised foreign, federal, state and local governments as well as non-profit and private sector organizations.
Mr. Cornelssen has been a guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities and has testified on numerous occasions before the U.S. Congress on matters related to public private partnerships.
