Michael Groppi leads CBRE’s Global Energy & Sustainability implementation team. In that capacity he is responsible for the delivery of energy and sustainability solutions to CBRE clients, investigation and deployment of cutting edge technologies and management of Global Energy Services’ supplier alliances. His team provides a variety of data management, utility bill payment, energy procurement, audit, assessment and LEED consulting services as well as managing the implementation of major energy reduction and sustainability programs.

Prior to joining CBRE Mr. Groppi was SVP Energy, Sustainability and Technology Solutions for Grubb & Ellis where he developed and implemented energy and sustainability solutions for corporate clients. He was the co-author of a Strategic Energy Plan for Microsoft’s 15 million square foot Redmond campus and spearheaded Grubb & Ellis’ participation in DOE programs including the Commercial Real Estate Energy Alliance, Superior Energy Performance Partnership and Retuning. He has also been a frequent speaker on energy management topics in forums such as CoreNet, Realcomm and CoRETech. In an earlier position at Grubb & Ellis Mr. Groppi led the Facility Resources Group, a centralized services team which included the National Call Center, Strategic Sourcing, Computerized Maintenance Management System deployment and professional engineering services.

Prior to joining Grubb & Ellis Mr. Groppi was a Senior Project Manager at Sargent & Lundy where he led multi-disciplinary teams in the design of large fossil power plant projects.

Mr. Groppi is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago as well as an MM in Finance and Economics from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
