CBRE Hires Leading Office and R&D Brokers in San Diego

CBRE announced four leading North County San Diego brokers had joined the company's San Diego office practice. Matty Sundberg and Michael Mahoney join the firm as Senior Vice Presidents, and Justin Halenza and Bob Cowan join as First Vice Presidents. All four were previously with Cushman & Wakefield.

The four specialize in leasing and selling office space, research and development (R&D) and corporate headquarters, specifically in the North County submarket of San Diego. The group is widely regarded as the top team in office activity throughout North County over the last year. According to CBRE research, the region totals over 11 million sq. ft. and is expected to grow as technology and life science companies expand into the area.

"Matty, Michael, Justin and Bob are well-respected leaders in the North County market," said John Frager, Executive Managing Director of CBRE's San Diego Office. "This region will continue to grow as less land is available in central San Diego, and vacancy remains relatively low. These four leaders understand this market and have the experience and knowledge to execute for their clients. I am very proud to have them join the team."

Mr. Sundberg has over 20 years of experience representing property owners and corporate tenants. In the last 15 years, he has completed over 1,200 sales and lease transactions totaling more than $1 billion and amounting to 10 million sq. ft. Mr. Sundberg holds a bachelor's degree from Point Loma Nazarene University and an MBA in international business from National University in San Diego.

For nearly two decades, Mr. Mahoney has advised his clients on office and flex space in San Diego. Throughout his career, he has completed thousands of transactions in Central San Diego and North County. Mr. Mahoney holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Arizona. He will continue to work closely with Mr. Halenza, covering Carlsbad to Del Mar Heights along Interstate 5.

Mr. Halenza arrives at CBRE with 25 years of experience. He has negotiated over 2,500 transactions totaling more than $1 billion and is recognized as a leader in the office and R&D markets throughout San Diego. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder. Mr. Halenza is very active in the industry as a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.

Mr. Cowan specializes in the representation of property owners and occupiers in North County. He brings 15 years of experience to his new role and has completed over 700 transactions totaling $800 million. Mr. Cowan holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and was named a 40 Under 40 honoree by San Diego Metro Magazine in 2019. He will cover the office market in Carlsbad, along State Route 78 corridor and North Interstate I-15.

The four producers are the latest in a series of hires for CBRE in San Diego. In January, CBRE announced that leading industrial & logistics professionals Dennis Visser and Weston Yahn joined its North County office. CBRE is among the largest commercial real estate brokerage firms in the San Diego region by the number of licensed professionals.
