Although global trade growth and the expanded canal’s greater efficiency will likely see traffic grow across all sea ports, the direction and destination of flows will be influenced by energy prices, canal tolls, infrastructure investment, labor and port efficiencies, and other factors. For Houston, the largest port user of the canal, traffic is expected to increase by 10-15% over the next few years.
