How did you first come across CBRE?
I joined CBRE in 2005 in Vancouver, Canada and initially, I was in the food industry but wanted to shift to the corporate world. I started as a receptionist and quickly progressed into a facilities coordinator role, giving me broad exposure to the corporate environment.
How many positions have you held at CBRE in your 19-year tenure?
I've held eight positions during my 19 years at CBRE.
What were your initial thoughts about CBRE, and how has your perception evolved?
Initially, I knew I wanted to work in a large organization for broader exposure and I quickly saw the vast opportunities CBRE offered. I moved from managing one site in Vancouver to managing corporate headquarters in San Francisco, and then to my current role. The fast-tracked opportunities and support from senior leadership were significant.
What's one thing you want potential candidates to know about CBRE?
Two key things: CBRE's company culture and values—respect, integrity, service, and excellence—are why I stay. Second is the plethora of opportunities for growth and the ability to evolve your career as you work hard and support your team.
I knew I wanted to work in a large organization for broader exposure and I quickly saw the vast opportunities CBRE offered.
How have you been challenged in your roles, and how has that fostered growth?
My move from Vancouver to San Francisco was a huge challenge, professionally and personally. Managing a corporate headquarters versus a single location was a big jump. Then, in my current role as a Business Unit Director, I handle the P&L and client acquisition, responsibilities I had to learn quickly. Senior leadership's support was crucial for my growth.
Have CBRE's training resources contributed to your success?
Definitely. CBRE provides extensive training opportunities. Not only do you get assigned training specific to your role, but there are also countless other courses you can take to broaden your skills in various fields.
How would you describe your potential becoming real at CBRE?
My potential became real first when I moved to San Francisco and took on a larger role than I initially thought I could handle, thanks to the support I received. The second phase is my current role, managing a business unit with various new responsibilities, with continuous support from senior leadership. My growth is ongoing.
