Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many unsung heroes labor behind the scenes to keep essential functions working. One such hero is Chicago’s Martin Walsh, a CBRE Chief Engineer who works onsite with his team of 13 engineers at the Lavin Family Pavilion on the Northwestern Memorial medical campus.
Walsh and his team maintain the infrastructure that serves critical care patients, enabling medical staff to focus on their primary role of patient care. As coronavirus cases began to spike in Chicago, Walsh and his team spent countless hours converting operating rooms into additional critical care units. He also led the effort to develop and operate Northwestern’s “drive-up” and “walk-up” COVID-19 testing sites.
For his efforts, the Chicago Sun-Times recognized Martin Walsh in its “Working Through” series that highlights people working through the COVID-19 pandemic to keep Chicago going. Walsh is described as “a selfless leader, full of compassion for the patients affected by this devastating virus.”
