Launched in 2020 to gauge the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on office utilization and corporate real estate decision making, the U.S. Office Occupier Sentiment Survey is based on more than 200 survey respondents from across the U.S. Numerous encouraging developments in workplace policies and employee utilization are presented in the Spring 2023 edition. For example, a bifurcation has emerged between small and large companies with respect to utilization rates. As illustrated in the figure above, 65% of organizations with fewer than 5,000 employees have seen office utilization rates less than 60%. Meanwhile, 94% of organizations with more than 5,000 employees have seen office utilization rate under 60%.

65% of survey respondents stated in the Spring 2023 survey that they are requiring employees to return to the office and only 30% continued to allow employees to decide whether to return to the office.
