- H1 2021 was a quieter period for data centre take-up following 2020’s all-time highs. However, activity is expected to regain momentum in H2 2021 when numerous new projects come on stream.
- Investors continue to display a strong appetite for data centre investment. Asia Pacific direct data centre investment turnover reached US$1.8 billion in the first six months of the year, equivalent to 80% of full-year 2020 turnover.
- Highlights in H1 2021 included the unveiling of mainland China’s new national data centre strategy, which aims to redirect the focus of development away from tier I cities.
- Other key trends included ESG criteria continuing to rise up data centre operators’ agenda as regulators, occupiers and investors demand more stringent sustainability requirements.
