Newly negotiated rezoning legislation was signed into law
on July 25, 2023, with public support from the Port of Seattle, which primarily aims to preserve present-day land uses rather than redirecting future development.
Negotiations between city planners and various private and nonprofit parties persisted for 16 years to rezone portions of SoDo and Georgetown, the districts located immediately south of Seattle’s downtown office market.
