Professional Experience

Justin Bessant is Director, Energy & Renewables, for CBRE Energy, where he provides offtake brokerage and advisory services to large energy users and energy market participants. Justin helps clients navigate utility-scale and behind-the-meter opportunities, identifying positions that fit their portfolios and structuring creative solutions that maximize value while minimizing risk throughout project lifecycles. His work spans utility-scale wind, solar, and battery offtake transactions, along with onsite renewable power and energy storage solutions for large load clients.

Before joining CBRE Energy, Justin spent several years at Phillips 66, where he completed the company's trader development program and served as a Power Originator, helping build their power trading desk from the ground up and structuring a portfolio of offtake agreements to optimize the company's asset base. He later transitioned to trading renewable fuels and credits, deepening his expertise in structuring transactions that balance market opportunity with operational objectives. Justin began his career as a Development Engineer at Source Global, a water technology company, where he developed innovative solar technologies for water-from-air applications. This technical foundation, combined with his trading and origination experience, allows him to evaluate energy opportunities through both technical and commercial lenses.

With nine years across technical and commercial energy roles, Justin brings a distinctive approach shaped by real-world trading operations and asset optimization. His background building and operating on the trading desk enables him to bridge the gap between corporate energy strategy and trading desk economics, helping energy-intensive companies and market participants optimize their positions while managing execution and market risk. Justin holds a BSE and MS in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University and an MS in Finance from Southern Methodist University.
