Marcella Thompson is the global head for Corporate Sustainability and Reporting at CBRE, the worlds global leader in commercial real estate services and investments. She is responsible for delivery of CBRE’s sustainability commitments, financial-grade greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting and voluntary and regulatory sustainability reporting.
Marcella led development of CBRE’s Climate Transition Strategy, providing an actionable roadmap to reduce emissions across operations and service offerings. She enables change through collaboration and by embedding accountability for sustainability performance across corporate functions.
In partnership with Corporate Finance, Marcella co-leads global efforts to elevate sustainability data to support financial-grade reporting. She oversees development of our annual Corporate Responsibility Report and has positioned CBRE for compliance with rapidly evolving climate- and sustainability regulatory reporting requirements.
Marcella joined CBRE in 2022, bringing more than 25 years of experience in the sustainability field. She’s worked in both consulting and corporate leadership roles and has balanced organizational leadership with technical expertise throughout her career.
Marcella previously served as the national sustainability and resiliency practice lead for HDR, a global architecture, engineering and professional services firm. She led cross-sector teams across sustainability solutions, decarbonization, sustainable infrastructure planning and design service lines.
Earlier in her career, Marcella served as ConAgra Foods’ first global sustainability director. She was instrumental in developing the company’s first Corporate Citizenship framework and establishing public sustainability goals. Lastly, Marcella led an internal sustainable development awards program that continues to this day, delivering $218 million in savings between 2009 and 2015.
