For more than 37 years, Scott L. Gottlieb has been a major presence in the New York City commercial brokerage scene. In that time, he has represented such world-class tenants as Macy’s, Major League Baseball, Paramount Global, Universal Music Group Inc. and Bloomingdale’s, Inc.
In addition, the CBRE vice chairman is an active landlord representative currently serving as owner’s agent for an 800,000 square foot repositioning at 550 Madison Avenue and 800,000 square foot at 51 West 52nd Street. Prior agency leasing assignments include 280 Park Avenue, 590 Madison Avenue, 40 West 57th Street, 888 Seventh Avenue, 9 West 57th Street, 909 Third Avenue, 650 Madison Avenue, and 150 East 42nd Street.
Whether working on behalf of the tenant or the landlord, a hallmark of Mr. Gottlieb’s career has been his ability to analyze complex real estate and space utilization challenges, and develop solutions that resonate beyond the immediate signing of a lease to offer long-term strategic solutions suited to the needs of all involved parties.
In recognition of his outstanding brokerage record, he was named vice chairman of CBRE in May of 2003; he was the youngest person ever to hold that title.
Mr. Gottlieb is also part of a select group of New York City commercial real estate professionals to garner one of the industry’s most prestigious honors, the Real Estate Board of New York’s “Most Ingenious Deal of the Year” award. The honor came as a result of the prominent role he played in developing and implementing a 1.5-million-square-foot expansion and consolidation for Viacom following its acquisition of Paramount Communications and Blockbuster Entertainment.
At the 2019 CBRE Recognition Summit, he received the Edward S. Gordon Award, a distinction given to an outstanding professional who exemplifies excellence, a strong work ethic and creativity in achieving exceptional client outcomes. A 20-time recipient of the Colbert Coldwell Circle Award, Mr. Gottlieb regularly appears in industry newspaper lists of top New York City brokers, including The Power 100 by Commercial Observer, an influential roster of real estate professionals who shape and transform New York City commercial real estate. A number of publications have celebrated him as a “leasing legend,” one of an exclusive group to have “taken the term power broker to a new level,” and a “tenant rep to the stars” for the high-profile clients he represents.
Mr. Gottlieb began his real estate career at Cushman & Wakefield in 1986. Within five years, he was named the top-producing salesperson for C&W nationally. In 1993, he joined Edward S. Gordon Company, the iconic New York services firm that would ultimately merge into CBRE. Starting as a managing director, he would consistently rank among the firm’s top producers.
Mr. Gottlieb began his professional career at Ernst & Whinney as a member of the New York Audit Group. He was a founding member, and currently sits on the board of School in the Square, a charter school located in Washington Heights. Mr. Gottlieb resides in Scarsdale, New York.
