Professional Experience
Sy Kim leads CBRE Energy's Distributed Generation, Community Solar, and Transferable Tax Credit services, working with large companies to unlock meaningful operating expense savings without requiring upfront investment. Sy is a commercial structuring expert who develops unique solutions that minimize risk exposure while capturing value from emerging energy opportunities.
With a background spanning project development, origination, and project finance, Sy brings expertise in the technical, commercial, and financial aspects of energy and tax credit transactions. Before CBRE Energy, he served as Managing Director of a boutique advisory firm, structuring deals for developers including Nexamp, Pacific Current, Onswitch, and NRG Energy. Prior to that, he built and scaled Clearway Energy's community solar and distributed generation platforms across multiple markets. His project finance experience has proven particularly valuable in bridging commercial gaps and creating unique structures for energy and tax credit opportunities. Sy began his career driving onsite solar development at SunPower while interfacing with policy and regulatory teams, developing a deep understanding of how market incentives shape commercial opportunity.
Over 15 years in distributed energy and finance, Sy has developed a unique perspective from working on both sides of the transaction table. This dual expertise allows him to identify opportunities others miss and structure deals that deliver compelling economics while protecting CBRE Energy clients from downside risk.
