Among the most well known architects in the United States, Philip Johnson and John Burgee have created distinctive structures in most of this country's major cities. TC Energy Center’s original design strikes a synthesis of past and present.
The interior and exterior of the building is sheathed in rough textured Napoleon red granite, quarried in Sweden and finished in Italy. Even the surrounding sidewalks are composed of the same granite used in the building. The lobby is highlighted by an 18 foot high 1914 Seth Thomas clock, of which only 300 were ever built. The entrance from Louisiana Street is an impressive seventy-five foot high, arched granite doorway. The granite stonework soars upward to 102 feet, 10 stories, and is so intricate that specialists from Spain were brought to Houston to install the more than 100 pieces around the arch. This archway continues through the center of the building to a second arched doorway that opens onto Smith Street. As an added feature, three of the lower office tower floors are bisected by the archway and connected by pedestrian bridges.
In addition to its proximity to numerous restaurants, hotels and other Theatre District entertainment venues, the Building offers the following on-site amenities: Coffee Bar Proudly Serving Starbucks, Murphy’s Deli, Glamour Newsstand and Sundry Shop (all under the Building). The Lancaster Hotel is located two blocks to the NE of the Building. In addition to the above, the Landlord has completed Phase I of its extensive renovation program to create a full-service restaurant space that is located on the ground floor of the former Western Union building in the NW corner of the Building lobby.
Phase II of additional renovations and dramatic improvements to the banking hall are underway. The improvements will include the installation of a coffee bar, tenant lounge and tenant conference center on the ground floor in the former bank lobby. Full height windows on the Rusk Street side and punched in windows on the Louisiana Street side will bring significant natural light into the Lobby. Two half-floor mezzanine levels with glass fronts will be added for creative office space.
A fitness center for tenants of the Building is being constructed on the second floor of the Western Union building with direct elevator service from the lobby. The fitness center will include full state of the art equipment, locker rooms with showers and towel service.
Destination dispatch elevators using the Otis Compass Plus system are being installed in each office elevator bank for added efficiency and energy savings.
Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts (formerly named Jones Plaza) has planned improvements to become a more visitor friendly outdoor green space. This block will be activated with a restaurant and additional entertainment areas.
