Since 1936, Trends® in the Hotel Industry has provided in-depth analysis of hotel revenues, expenses, and profits, compiling thousands of financial statements from various hotels across the nation. From these statements, our firm extracts and uniformly formats 200 specific revenue and expense items to ensure equitable benchmarking. The results of the compilation are presented in our annual and monthly Trends® in the Hotel Industry reports.

With your participation, and the submissions of thousands of other U.S. hotels in the survey, Trends® is one of the most widely used and detailed survey of its type.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Participation is free of charge.
  2. Participation requires that you provide your year-end or monthly financial statements from each of the properties you operated for a full 12-month period (calendar or fiscal). As with all CBRE surveys, data is kept strictly confidential.*
  3. New participants are required to complete our Terms of Use agreement which defines how we handle and use the confidential data we received.

*Monthly participants should provide operating statements on a monthly basis to continue to receive the U.S. Trends® Monthly Report.

To participate, please provide the operating statements for each of your properties in one of the following formats:

  1. Questionnaire (Preferred): Complete a questionnaire for each property. Download Questionnaire
  2. Bulk Submission (Preferred): Provide the data for each of your properties in one or more formatted excel workbooks. If possible please include unique codes for each hotel, department, and statistical, revenue and expense line item. View Format Samples 
  3. Individual Property Statements: Provide the data for each of your properties via Excel (Preferred) or PDF in your current format.

2025 annual data will be processed in accordance with the 11th edition of the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry

2026 monthly data will be processed in accordance with the 12th edition of the Uniform System of Account for the Lodging Industry.
